Water Colored Tissue Background

We tried a basic variation of water color painting on tissue paper when my daughters were young. We made a simple stained glass windows by painting on tissue paper and adhering it to a simple rectangular frame. I saw this You Tube Video on Splitcoaststampers by Loll Thompson that shows how easy this technique is to do for card backgrounds and I knew that I wanted to try it. I sat down one evening and made a bunch of these backgrounds in different colors. To me, this background looked a bit like a tie-dyed shirt, which my oldest daughter loves, so I decided to use it for her valentine card. Once the tissue paper was dry, I used liquid Tacky glue and an old gift card to spread the glue evenly on the card stock. I carefully laid the tissue paper on top and then pressed and smoothed the tissue paper out. After this was dry I added it to the dark pink card stock. Thank goodness for the MFT Sketch Challenge (see below), because I knew that I wanted to use one of the Dies from Bloomdala Bliss Felicity CUTplorations and the gold foil outline heart that I had previously saved, but other than that, I could not come up with an idea. I used one of the MFT Stitched Heart Stax and cut a smaller heart from some brushed gold metallic card stock. The vellum sentiment banner was cut using a die from My Creative Time Sentiment Label Dies. The sentiment is from STAMPlorations Power of Words-Dee’s Artsy Impressions. I used Picked Raspberry Distress Ink, added some Ranger Holographic Embossing Powder and heat fixed. The clear sequins are from Pretty Pink Posh.

Love and Sympathy

I needed a quick sympathy card and I remembered how pretty white embossed images and sentiments look on kraft card stock. This took no more than 10 minutes for me to make. I used the heart stamp and a sentiment from Unity’s sympathy set Beautiful Life, Blessed Memories to stamp with Distress Embossing Ink on Neenah Desert Storm Card stock, added some White Embossing powder, then heat embossed.

A Waffle

I saw This Technique Tuesday Stamp set and thought of my grandson. He loves waffles. He’s in junior high so I can still make cute and punny cards for him. I stamped the image and sentiment with Versafine Black Onyx ink and heat set it. I used Copics to color the image and added some Glossy Accents to the butter. The little red heart is from Kat Scrappiness shop. I used Chunky Stitched Tag dies from My Creative Time to cut the image/sentiment pane and the black background panel. I cut the red card stock using the larger Kat Scrappiness Stitched Heart Tag die. I had previously made an alcohol ink background and thought it would add some interest to the card, so I just die cut the heart out and inlaid it in the heart space.

Mixed Media Valentine #2

This card is nearly the same as a previous card that I made. I used the same layout, digital stamp and die as the card in this post. I used a different stencil Here, different colors of Copics, different ink for the sentiment and different embossing paste. I used Heidi Swapp Pink metallic embossing paste and Picked Raspberry Distress Ink for the sentiment on this card.

Ombré Hops

My son-in-law likes to brew his own beer. A couple of years ago, he asked if he could plant some hops plants in our yard because they lived in a condo with no yard at the time. My husband said yes and they planted two plants. They grew like weeds! He harvested it each year and has used some to brew some beer, but there is a lot more in their freezer. I saw this O Hoppy Day clear stamp set (digital set also) and thought it would be the perfect set to make his birthday card, as well as other masculine cards. I ink blended the background with Distress Oxides, trying to mimic a nature themed ombré pattern from the ground (brown) to plants (greens) to sunlight (yellow). I stamped the image using Ranger Potting Soil Archival Ink on Neenah Desert Storm card stock. I colored the image with Faber Castell Polychromos pencils. The sentiment is from the same set. The beer mug in the O Hoppy Day Stamp set was too large for the space that was left, so I used a beer mug from a Facebook stamp shop called Stampin Funn. I used the same ink on the Desert Storm card stock and colored it with the same pencils as the plant image.

Mixed media Valentine

It’s time to get some Valentine cards made. I mixed some embossing paste and some Distress Oxide Ink in Worn Lipstick and made a background using one of my favorite stencils-STAMPlorations Delicate Links Stencil. I liked how the Distress Oxide Ink gave the embossing paste different hues of pink. I cut the gorgeous die cut out of some Simon Says Stamp White Glitter Card stock using STAMPlorations Bloomdalia Bliss Felicity CUTplorations. The image is a free digi stamp created by Shery Russ on This STAMPlorations Blogpost (for a limited time). I printed it out on Neenah Solar White Card stock, heat set the printer ink and colored it with Copics. I cut out around the image, mounted it on the card with some foam adhesive squares and added some Clear Wink of Stella to the coffee and flower. The sentiment is from STAMPlorations The Power of Words stamped with some Simon Says Stamp Lia pink ink. I added some Ranger Holographic embossing powder and heat embossed for some more sparkle. The clear sequins are from Pretty Pink Posh.
