Hoppy Easter!

I spent the past couple of days getting ready for Easter. I mailed my daughter (who is away at college and has to work this weekend) an Easter box. My adult kids nixed my using baskets anymore so I just make treat bags. I was going to buy treat bags and cards, but after realizing the cost, decided to just decorate some white bags that I had and make some quick cards from a set of Doodlebug cards that I have in my stash. The cards were tri-folds. I didn't really need that much space to stamp/write an Easter message, so I cut the 3rd panels off of the cards and used them to make matching tags for the bags. I have only made one tag before, so I kept it simple.
I used a Unity Stamp from their Stamp of the Week club called No bunny. I used some Black embossing powder mixed with Clear embossing powder (about 1/2 and 1/2) so my image wasn't so harshly black. I used some Copics/MEPXY markers to color a few spots and then used Stickles to add a little shine. Some twine from Trendy Twine added just enough to call these tags done!

Have a blessed Easter everyone!

A Glass Flower card

I finally followed the directions for the CropChocolate.com's challenge, which was to make a flower out of something else. I have been wanting to try to make the "glass flowers" from plastic packaging or the bottom of a plastic water bottle. I found a couple of good tutorials on YouTube. The first one is how to make the flowers from plastic packaging YouTube on Faux Glass Flowers. The second one shows how to cut the bottom of a plastic 2 liter soda bottle (or a smaller water bottle, like I used) and make it into a "glass" flower YouTube on Recycled Pop Bottle Flower.
I really, really wanted to get this card made to enter it into The Playdate Cafe's color challenge, because I LOVE green and purple together, but I missed the deadline by about 30 minutes. Here is their color palette.

I don't always use sketches, but I felt the need for one today. I love Jen's sketches over at Deconstructingjen.com, so I used the current one.

Here is more of a close-up of the flower I loved using Lime Green Stickles for the flower center. I will submit this over at All That Stickles Blog in their Lime Green linky. I am also linking this up to the
3 Girl Jam, It's All About the Green w/Ribbon Challenge since I used their ribbon.

I had fun making this flower. See below for a 2nd flower that I made. Happy Spring! The flowers are under the snow!

Products used: So Sophie Graceful by My Mind's Eye, Distress Ink Evergreen Bough, Pebbles Flourish, Ranger Alcohol Ink Citrus, Doodles & Things stamp by Fancy Pants (used on the flower and leaves) (all purchased at cropchocolate.com), Ranger Alcohol inks, Lime Green and Purple Stickles, Our Daily Bread Designs stamp, Stazon Jet Black ink, 3Girl Jam ribbon, Scotch ATG adhesive, Glue dots, plastic water bottle and other plastic packaging.

Read the directions!

The challenge over at CropChocolate.com this week is to make a flower "out of another item." The example on the blog shown by Corrie here uses pages from the income tax act to distress and make flowers. As she states, you can also use dictionary pages or any other very thin paper. I decided to try a variation using card stock. I think that it turned out pretty nice. The only problem is that the directions indicate that we are to use something other than regular paper/cs.
I had fun soaking the cs and rolling it up in crinkled wads. The funny part was when my husband saw the crinkled wads drying on a newspaper by the heat vent and asked, "What is this?" I told him it was going to be my flower. He just stared at me with that blank "I don't get it at all" look!
I felt a little springier while I was making this card, even though it is snowing right now!
I am entering this in the Creative Inspirations Paint "Anything goes" challenge3 Girl Jam's All About the Green and Ribbon Challenge, Tuesday Alchemy's Anything Goes Challenge and Pinque Peacock's 300 Face book Fan contest (since I used one of their Angel Pins).

Products used: For the Record 2-Documented by Echo Park, This and That Charming brad by Echo Park, The 12 Days of Christmas pearls by My Mind's Eye, Flourish by Pebbles, Ranger Distress Ink in Walnut stain and Chipped Sapphire (all purchased on Cropchocolate.com), Really Reasonable Ribbon, EK Success punch, Unity Stamp, Pinque Peacock Angel stick pin, Creative Inspiration Paints in Mellow Yellow, Green Olive and Chocolate and Recollections leaves.

Peony's

I am usually intimidated by larger stamps. I saw these Peony stamps by Donna Downey over at Unity Stamp Co. and had to have them.
My mom had the prettiest pink peony's in our backyard. I loved to see them every spring. We had them at our house when my husband and I moved in. My husband had grown up with them too, however he could only see and think of the ants that they attracted. He said that they were too close to the house and mowed them down. I was going to school 40+ hours a week, raising a 2 year old and too young and inexperienced as a gardener to try to dig them up and rescue them.
So I guess I can now enjoy the pretty pink peonies again, if only on paper.

I used the sketch from Mojo Monday

I will enter this in the weekly challenge over at Crop Chocolate,
Really Reasonable Ribbon's Flower and Ribbon Challenge, Ribbon Carousel's Spring is in the Air Challenge and Unity Stamp Co.'s Friends with Flair weekly challenge.

Julie's blogoversary blog hop--Celebrate Friendship

Hi friends! Welcome to Julie's blogoversary blog hop celebrating her 1 year anniversary of the creation of her blog. You should have arrived here from Paula's blog. If you came to my blog through another means, or if you get lost along the hop, you should go to Julie's blog to start the hop and for the entire list of blogs.
This is also my Unity Friends with Flair post.

***There is blog candy on many of the blogs, so read each blogger's instructions on how to be eligible to win. My blog candy is listed at the end of my post.

Julie chose Celebrate Friendship as her theme, which is an awesome theme, since in the papercrafting world we are all pretty much friends, right? After all, who else would understand our love of paper, adhesive, bling, stamps, ink, and whatever other media and supplies we can get our hands on? I "met" Julie over at Crop Chocolate, a deal-a-day website that is also a great community of crafters of all different levels. Questions are usually answered by many talented and willing "instructors."
Julie always seemed so cheerful and upbeat and although we have not met in person (yet!), it was hard not to picture her smiling through the miles that separate our home towns. When she asked me if I would join in her Celebrate Friendship blog hop, I couldn't refuse, even though I was a bit intimidated by the thought of all of you talented crafters hopping over to see my cards. I have only been making cards for about a year and I never made it to any Stampin' Up or Close to My Heart gatherings, so my confidence level is not too high!
But friends support each other and this is about helping a friend celebrate her 1st year of  having a blog and her growth as a crafter/artist. Happy Blogoversary, Julie! I wish you many more years of creating! Lets get to the celebration!

My first card was inspired by a tutorial on Split Coast Stampers (Splitcoaststampers Quilted card) about paper piecing to create a quilted look. I feel like all of my friends are like pieces of a patchwork quilt. Each friend has a place in my life and all together, they help make my life a beautiful ride! This wasn't that hard by following the tutorial. Also, I have helped quilt when my mother-in-law used to quilt.

I used Winterland 6x6 paper by Fancy Pants, Sizzix Ornate Flowers embossing folder (used after making "the quilt", Tombow adhesive and my ATG adhesive gun, ribbon from Ribbon Carousel, Unity stamp, Tim Holtz Distress Ink Victorian Velvet and Fired Brick, white and burgundy cardstock.

I was so excited this week when I opened my mailbox and found the Creative Inspirations Paint that I had ordered! I stamped my Unity Stamp Co.-Face the Sunshine image with Stazon Black ink on watercolor paper and heat set it. I then got my (Crayola) water colors, Staedtler water color pencils and started painting. Once my image was dry, I got out my new Creative Inspirations Paint in Blush, Mellow Yellow, Chocolate and Winter Frost and began highlighting areas of the painted image. These paints are great for highlighting parts of your project. They add color and a little shimmer. My friend Rebecca introduced these paints to me from some of her awesome projects on her blog. She gave me some great pointers on how to use them. Thanks!

I also used True Friends 6x6 paper by Carta Bella, Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Walnut Stain and Broken China, Queen and Co. Rhinestones and ribbon from my stash, more Tombow adhesive and my Scotch ATG gun. The sentiment is from Unity-I thought it goes well with the theme. I am entering this card in Unity's weekly Friends with Flair Challenge
